It’s 23 degrees and sunny in Lakewood at 1:00pm. The warm weather and sun we had for the last couple of weeks is now behind us. The trails that were exposed to the sun are pretty much gone. The NST (grade) has suffered the same fate in most cases. However, the trails in the woods that were primarily out of the sun still have a flat level ice base. All we need now is more snow. And, of this writing we are currently under a Winter Storm Watch from Wednesday at 6:00 PM until Thurs at 6:00 PM. The predicted snow accumulations are between 10 and 13 inches. With many of the weather forecast models now starting to line up, we believe the National Weather Service will change it to a Winter Storm Warning, shortly.
Be advised that once the snow starts to fall, we will need to determine its water content before any grooming will begin. The trails having the ice base may need to sit based on the night time lows. However, they are calling for lows in the single digits so that would be good news for panning it down. Rest assured, the trails in Northern Oconto County are still open for your riding enjoyment. The corners and hills in the woods will still be icy, so please be careful. Check back tomorrow for a trail update.
